Build planning guide

Planning Your First Motorcycle Build

Organize your motorcycle project around condition, intended use, compatible parts, and a complete budget.

Start with the bike you have

Record the make, model, year, current equipment, and service history. Before planning appearance or performance changes, have unresolved mechanical issues assessed.

Separate maintenance from modifications

Use the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's T-CLOCS checklist as a starting inspection resource. Keep maintenance, riding equipment, optional modifications, and installation as separate budget categories.

Use motorcycle-specific parts information

Confirm the exact application and manufacturer instructions for each proposed component. Tire and wheel changes need motorcycle-specific guidance; do not apply a car build's assumptions to a motorcycle.

Compare your build directions

Select Motorcycle in the planner, save your baseline, and duplicate it for a second direction. The planner's figures help organize your ideas; actual parts and labor require quotes for your specific bike.
